Sean Mclain Brown is a combat disabled Marine Corps veteran, author, journalist and writing instructor. 

Brown is the recipient of the Barbara Mandigo Kelly Peace Poetry Prize. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in more than fifty journals and anthologies, including Indiana Review, Fourteen Hills, San Francisco Magazine, The San Francisco Chronicle, terrain.org, New American Writing, Military.com, An Introduction to the Prose Poem (Firewheel Editions), Veterans of War, Veterans of Peace (Koa Books, edited by Maxine Hong Kingston), and Convergence: Poetry on the Environmental Impacts of War (Scarlet Tanager Books).

Brown is a longtime member of Maxine Hong Kingston's Veterans Writing Group and has taught writing at De Anza College and Western Connecticut State University. He lives and writes on the Sonoma-Mendocino coast and in the Santa Clara Valley.

He has just finished four standalone (yet linked) books collected in The Operator's Reference Set, a tetralogy of hybrid narrative poetry manuscripts that borrow documentary forms — dictionary, field guide, technical manual, encyclopedia — and press them against the experience of the Gulf War, Iraq War, and their long aftermath.
